Attended opening ceremonies of the 34th Annual CPOA National Convention.

Roll Call of National Officers – In attendance were President Pro-tem, BM1 Keith Endicott, Vice President Pro-tem, BM1 Lee Schmitz, Secretary Pro-tem and President Elect BM1 Mary Watson, Vice President Elect, DC1 Mike Lawing, Secretary Elect YN2 Doris Jackson, Treasurer Elect MST1 Terese King, (Proxy for Colonial Branch), AVT2 Mike Ochs (Alternate for Elizabeth City Branch).

The CGEA was greeted by the interim MCPOCG, BMCM Bowen.  BMCM Bowen invited President Elect BM1 Mary Watson to the retirement ceremony of MCPOCG.

Discussed problems of tracking members-at-large, new members and members not accounted for.

The CGEA extended an invitation to BMCM Bowen to the Colonial Branch membership drive in October.

The CGEA was addressed by MCPO Najera, CGDEIGHT Command Master Chief.  He encouraged the CGEA to be proactive with membership drives and recruiting.

OLD BUSINESS

CGEA was addressed by BMCS Tim Trimble.  The proposed CGEA Procedures Manual changes were discussed and changes were recommended by BMCS Trimble.  The manual will be presented for approval to the CPOA on 27 Aug 02.

NEW BUSINESS

Reviewed  2002 budget.

Discussed duties of each elected officer, president, vice president, secretary, treasurer and immediate past president.

Met with National President, SCPO Tim Trimble, National Treasurer MCPO Tim Lackey, National Executive Administrator Tom Scaramastro and Chairman of Budget committee, MCPO Shaw to discuss budget issues.

Discussed duties of CGEA National Officers.

WEDNESDAY, 28 AUGUST 2002

RECONVENED 0800

Officers broke into two groups.  Secretary and Treasurer processed changes to Procedures Manual outlining officer duties of CGEA National officers i.e., data input.  Second group addressed budget issues.

DC1 Lawing was excused to attend Long Range Planning committee meeting.

CPOA’s CGEA/CPOA Committee members, SCPO Bob Sennholtz, CPO Kristine Kreider, and CPO Doug Hansen met with CGEA officers and discussed where-about of CGEA charter, being included in planning schedules/agenda.  Also addressed budget concerns briefly.

CGEA requested time at future opening ceremonies to present preamble, charter, and awards.

Addressed CGEA Committee members concerning last year’s minutes.  CGEA requested mentoring CGEA Branch member by attending parliamentary procedures of CPOA meetings at Chapter level.

CPO Krieder wanted to know what is the mission of the CGEA and how we would reach the individual branches.  BM1 Watson commented on plans to submit a quarterly newsletter via mail, email, Web page and also be included in CPOA magazine.

Officers recessed to join CPOA presentations of CPOA Gold Lifetime Member.

BM1 Watson passed out CH-1 to CGEA Procedures Manual for review.  A motion was made by BM1 Schmitz to update the duties of the branch immediate past president.  Seconded by MST1 King.

Continued reviewing duties of CGEA National officers.  Finalized CH-1 to CGEA Procedures Manual pertaining to National Officers and elections and defined roles and responsibilities of Executive Committee.

FRIDAY, 30 AUGUST 2002

Officers discussed previous day’s minutes and made changes.

YN2 Jackson presented group photo to CGEA Officers.  It is being considered whether or not to purchase the picture for historical purposes or is the CPOA going to purchase the picture; and if the CGEA purchases the picture at a cost of $15.00, will the CPOA reimburse us for the cost.

CGEA Officers recessed to attend closing ceremonies of the CPOA National Convention and be sworn in as the National Officers of the CGEA.

BM1 L. Schmitz, Immediate Past Vice President, and BM1 M. Watson, newly elected President, both addressed the CPOA.

BM1 K. Endicott, Immediate Past President, was presented with the Silver Lifetime Badge.

Newly elected officers:  BM1 M. Watson, DC1 M. Lawing, YN2 D. Jackson, and MST1 T. King were sworn in as CGEA National Officers, President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, respectfully.
