Region ONE Chapters 16
CPOA Region One
Good Day Shipmates:
I just wanted to
take a minute to let you know I am not totally OOC [Out of Commission], at
least not yet. I have had a few health problems but now I'm on the road to
full recovery, as well as our CPOA website (www.uscgcpoa.org)
is now back online and working just fine.
Also, I have updated my mailing list but I have not removed your past
presidents’ addresses just yet. I need to wait until I know if all my new
e-mail addresses are working. Please get back to me and let me know your
new chapter officers.
The April edition
of The CHIEF is in the mail to you. Please review it closely as there is a lot
of information in it that you can use to discuss items of concern with your
chapter members. In particular, you can find the new By-laws and
Operations manual, Call to Convention, 16-20 August 2010, Resolutions for the
2010 Convention, minutes from the Board of Directors [BOD] March meeting and
many more items of interest. The CHIEF is the outlet chapters use to let
others know what their chapter is or has been doing, especially your chapter’s
out of area members. The Chief’s editor will also post “Letters to the Editor”
as space permits. It’s an excellent forum to ask questions, get something
off your chest, give a Bravo Zulu to a shipmate, etc. Letters to the
Editor is just the place for any of those.
During the
National BOD meeting last March we had an informal visit with the new Master
Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard [CGMCPO] and the Master Chief Petty
Officer of the Coast Guard for Reserve Forces [CGRFMCPO]. They informed
us that they are committed to support and improve the aims and goals of the
CPOA.
The Convention
will be in downtown New Orleans from August 16th to the 21st. Our Convention
hotel is mere blocks from the French Quarter. Taxis will be required from the
airport to the hotel. Please check CPOA website for more detailed
information. We would like to see all our chapter presidents attend this
year’s convention. The CPOA offers an interest free loan up to $2000 to
cover Convention costs.
We continue to
believe that Chiefs Call to Initiation [CCTI] is the best way to recruit new
members. Make sure your chapter’s person in charge of membership is
conscientious about knowing who is making Chief and offering assistance to
complete the application and allotment form and forwarding them. In the
past, very few–if any–membes have stopped and allotment or dropped out of the
Association. There have been quite a number who were allowed to slip
through the cracks and not be signed up in the first place. It’s
also true that those people who don’t get signed up within a short time of
making The Hat don’t become members for many years. That’s unfortunate for
them and for the Association. Take the extra couple of minutes to make it
as easy to join as not to join.
See you at the
Convention!
Yours in service,
DAVE ISHERWOOD
